Teaching the Tools
Based on the tenet that critical decisions should be data driven, this course addresses what data are necessary, which tool is appropriate to analyze the data, and in what sequence the tools should be applied to be most cost effective. This sequence of analysis techniques progresses from the simple to the complex, allowing large numbers of employees to solve problems while confining the most complex problems to the most skilled employees. This is the most cost effective approach, simultaneously raising the morale of everyone. Defect Reduction with Quality Tools provides a methodology for both manufacturing and service businesses to identify and manage opportunities for improvement and a business-based rationale for rank ordering these opportunities to achieve maximum impact.
Both Service and Manufacturing Industries: Analysis and control techniques, such as multi-Pareto diagrams, histograms, scatter plots, basic designed experiments, and control charts, are applicable to both service and manufacturing. For service, these can be applied in all time-based and risk management processes, as well as with estimating and forecasting accuracy. For manufacturing, the workshop is extended to include development of additional designed experiments, including variables search, multi-vari, full-factorial experiments, and components search. These techniques are applied to the identification of the critical process control variables. This, in turn, provides the basis for establishing control mechanisms that will ensure (within a 99.9996% confidence level) that output will be made within specification limits.
